GEOG 226 - Spatial Data & Analysis

Welcome

The ability to effectively use and interpret maps and remotely sensed images (air photos and satellite images) is an essential skill not only for work in the forests but as a basic life skill as well.  Being able to determine distance and direction is critical for locating features both on the map and in the real world.  A good natural resource manager needs to able to "read" and interpret maps and remotely sensed images

This course provides an introduction to the use of maps and air photos in forestland management.  Topics include:

  • maps - ordering base maps, interpretation & measurements

  • air photos - acquisition, 3D viewing, photo geometry & measurements

  • field orienteering - use air photos & maps to navigate in the woods
