Math 121 Fall 2017 Final Exam Notes

What to Bring:

Bring lots of pencils, pens, erasers, a watch, a ruler, and your student ID. Do not bring scrap paper as it will be provided. Note that cell phones, music players and other electronic devices must be put away during the exam and cannot be used as clocks. Also, packs and bags must be placed at the front of the room during the exam, so avoid bringing valuables with you to the exam.

Extra Practice:

The final exam is comprehensive, and so may include any material covered since the first day of the course.

You must of course know your derivative rules as well as the laws of exponents and logarithms. In addition to reviewing your class notes, tests, and previously assigned homework, you should prepare by solving lots and lots of extra problems. Listed below are some old exams and additional resources. Note, however, that your exam may be different in both format and content. These sample exams are intended to give you extra practice on a broad range of problems. They are not meant to suggest in any way that your final exam will necessarily be similar.

IMPORTANT: The topics of Inverse Trigonometric Functions (textbook Sec 3.5), L'Hospital's Rule (Sec 3.7) and Newton's Method (Sec 4.6) are relatively new topics to the Math 121 syllabus, and as such, the practice material below does not contain review questions on those topics. Be sure to review your homework and tests as those topics may appear on your exam.

  4. Final Exam Review Questions (Omit questions 18 & 24-28) with answers (thanks to Dr.V. Watts for supplying these). Some of these supplementary problems may seem challenging in comparison to homework problems, but they are completely within the scope of material covered during the term and they provide excellent preparation for the final exam. Please note the following typos in the answers:
    • The answer to 2(k) should be negative infinity
    • For Question 12(c), refer to the answer for 12(d) but replace 2x2 with 2x
    • For Question 12(d), refer to the answer for 12(e)
    • For Question 12(e), refer to the answer for 12(c)
    • For the answer to 14(b) replace "=" with "-"
    • For the answer to 46(a) replace "1" with "0" in both intervals
