FRST 352 - Forest Entomology

Welcome

Insects are natural components of forest ecosystems.  Under certain conditions, some can significantly alter a forest ecosystem and change its value to society.  The population of some insects can vary from low, endemic levels of little impact upon human values to large-scale outbreaks with catastrophic consequences to ecological, economic, and/or other forest management objectives.  It is necessary that those engaged in forestland management keep informed of the current status of real and potential pests.

This course examines the significant insect pest agents that affect BC's forests.  Topics include: basic insect biology, significant insect pests, their life history,  economic and ecological impacts, natural and applied controls and sampling techniques.
