Exam Period Notes

• Here are some practice problems for the final exam. Some are a bit challenging, but completely within the scope of the material covered in class. Solutions will be posted shortly-- check back here later.

• There will be a final exam problem session on Wed Dec 7 from 9:00 am to noon in Room 324 of Building  360 (the Math and Chem building). This is meant to be an informal session where you may ask questions, I can give you problems to try, we can go over the practice problems, etc. Attendance is optional.
• The final exam is on Fri Dec 9 at 9:00 am in Building 370 Room 111. The exam is comprehensive, covering all material since the first day of the course. The practice problems are a very good indicator of the type of questions to expect on the exam.

  The format of the exam is

  1. Question 1: 20 short answer problems worth 2% each. These are short problems requiring only one or two steps and should take no more than 5 minutes each.
  2. Questions 2-7: The remainder of the exam consists of 6 long answer questions each worth 10% and requiring approximately 10 minutes each.
  3. A formula sheet will be provided containing the formulas for elasticity of demand, Newton's Method, compound interest, and present and future values of annuities. It will not contain the formulas for the differentiation rules we have learned: these you should know. You should also know the formulas for marginal cost, revenue, marginal revenue product, and the various logarithm laws such as ln(ab)=ln(a)+ln(b), ln(e)=1, etc.

  A few final notes: You must bring your student i.d. card to the exam. You may use a non-graphing, non-programmable scientific calculator for your work. You many NOT use your cell phone for a clock; all cell phones must be turned off and put away during the exam.

• I will be available in my office on Wed Dec 7 from 1:00-4:00 for help. It is unlikely that I will be available on Thu Dec 8 in the morning. If that changes I will post a note here.
• Final grades are now posted. I will not discuss final exam grades by email or phone, however you may view your final exam if you wish. Please email me to arrange a time in this case.
