The movie Passchendaele is a fictional account of the battle based on actual events.  In watching the movie we want to assess how Hollywood (north) has treated history.    There are a number of themes that you need to watch for and be able to discuss with specific examples.

In watching the movie, you are to assess the “historical accuracy” of the movie based on what you have seen or read in the course to this point.  Assess the overall movie content, but pay particular attention to :

·       Home front life – details, themes, etc

·       Recruitment and the recruitment process

·       Nature of battle

·       Nationalism, patriotism, and the image of Canadians

·       Timeline

In assessing the movie you need to think about where does the movie agree or disagree with specific readings or other materials from the course.

Overall, based on what you have seen in the movie and the other materials from the course, how would you assess the historical accuracy of the movie?
