August 6, 2013

Note:  These questions are based on  the readings we have done prior to this movie.  You will not able to answer them at this time, but as you watch the movie you need to be thinking of any relevant readings from the term and correlating them to what you see in the movie.
  1. The Grapes of Wrath is Steinbeck's fictionalized account of a Depression-era farm family.  How specifically (ie specific readings) does the movie agree with the readings from this term?  Where does the content of the movie differ from what we have read?
  2. How is the American Dream depicted in TGOW?   To the “Oakies”, what does the American dream consist of?
  3. Based on what Ossian documented in "Bandits, Mad Men....", what was, with specifics, the impact of the Great Depression on the farm family?
  4. To what extent, and how, is this movie a critique of the state, and of the New Deal?
