A great site rich in primary documents. In particular look at the historical narrative section of the site for images and documents.
The World's Columbian Exposition
An innovative and interesting look at the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 and what it can tell us about the social, political, and cultural aspects of the day. For a comparison, see also the site for the 1904 World's Fair.
How the Other Half Lives (1890)
The hypertext edition of the famous study of New York tenements by Jacob Riis.
A collection of child labour photographs (1908-12) by Lewis Hine.
The Iron Heel (1908)
A futuristic novel by Jack London of fascist tyranny and socialist revolution. Of particular interest see chapter 13, "The General Strike".

A very extensive site of primary documents for the period.
Although I'm really not certain how these materials fits in with the essay topics, it is a great site from the Library of Congress.

A very interesting collection of contemporary articles and cartoons from Harper's Weekly which look at the Chinese specifically, and the question of ethnicity and race generally, in late nineteenth century America.

An excellent site of contemporary documents about life and labour in New York at the turn of the century.
