Mapping a Network
Drive (& Copy Data)

The data for
the GIS lab exercises are located on the network.  In order to gain access to
the data you have to ‘map’ the location of the network drive.
  - Turn on and sign on
to the computer. Wait until everything has finished loading and you can see
  the "start" button.

  - On the desktop
  double click on "My Computer".

  - Click (click once
with the left mouse button) on the "Tools" menu.

  - Click on the "Map
  Network Drive..." option.

  - This will open up a
new window. You need to enter two things.
 The first
is the drive letter. Left Click on the small black downwards pointing arrow
beside the drive letter. This will show a pull down menu that will display all
the drive letters you can choose. I would suggest using G:

	Finally enter the
network path. This tells the computer where the shared drive is. For this
particular shared drive the path is \\discovery\shares\g\gis

  - Make sure that the
small check box labeled "Reconnect at logon" is checked.

  - Click the "Finish"
  button.

  - The window should
disappear and (after a few seconds) a new drive should show up in the My
Computer window. Try double clicking on it to open it. If you can, then you
have successfully set up a network drive.

Now you can copy the
necessary folders & files from the GIS network folder to your U: drive.
