This course provides an introduction to geographic information systems (GIS) with an emphasis on spatial and attribute data issues (data management, quality, models, and structures) and analytical operations (query, buffer, overlay, spatial interpolation). Satellite imagery is also examined.
This course is designed for first year students of the Forest Resources Technology Program. Credits: 2
Learning will be achieved through lectures, class discussions and labs. Course hours (lec:sem:lab) are 2:0:2, however, the weekly breakout between lecture and lab may vary.
Required Text: An Introduction to Geographic Information Systems by Heywood, Cornelius and Carver (Prentice Hall).
