Pathology Paper
Topic: Forest Pathology Topic of Your Choice
Write a report 1,800-2,000 word in length on any topic of forest pathology (one page, minus figures/tables equates to ~225 words, double-spaced with 12-pt font). If you wish to work in pairs then the length should be ~2,500-3,000 words. Target it for a professional magazine - be sure to write accordingly, i.e. your audience is informed/educated, but may not be "up on the latest" regarding your topic; as always, be sure to 'speak plainly' and define jargon and technical terms.
Choose a specific topic that has not been covered in class, i.e. not An Overview of Phellinus Root Disease ...but rather
![]() | remote sensing to detect tree health |
![]() | what's killing the palm trees? - lethal yellowing of palm |
![]() | what causes scabs on apples |
![]() | American Chestnut - R.I.P. |
![]() | managing for (real) mistletoe ... this is the kissing kind (Phoradendron or Viscum), not found in BC |
![]() | comparison of survey methods for assessing root disease levels |
![]() | managing BC's forests for climate change |
![]() | breeding for resistance to white pine blister rust (BC vs. Idaho) |
![]() | Forest health issues in Scandinavia ... or Hungary ... or Great Britain ... or even, yes, dare to dream ... Saskatchewan |
I expect 8+ cited sources, several diagrams/ tables/ figures, a title page, some structure to the paper (sections/ sub-sections), introduction, summary/conclusion, references cited, etc.
You will need to get approval of your topic - email me at doug.corrin@viu.ca. If you wish to use the same (or very similar) topic as a previous report you will need permission.
You may wish to review Academic Misconduct (especially points 5 and 6) and Citing Sources.
