September 1782, Second Fortnight
Trieste (August 19): In this town a new trading company is going to be formed with a starting capital of 2 million. The company responsible for the refining of sugar has recently bought, in Hungary, 1200 beef carcasses which it has had salted in Fiume. This new branch of commerce is growing by the day; salted meat from Fiume is competitive with that of all other countries. The new company of the Indies, managed by Mr. Bolts, will have two ships, each of 120 feet, built at Porto Re.
