23 July 1782: Vienna, 11 July. A subscription has been opened here on the account of Lieutenant Colonel Bolts, director of the Austrian East India company, for those who wish to take an interest in the cargo of his ship called the Conte di Cobentzel. This, which has been designated by H.M. to go round the world, will depart Trieste armed with 20 cannon under the command of Captain Baver, and will have on board an expert English astronomer, who has already made such a voyage under Captain Cook. The vessel will proceed by the Cape Verde Islands, and from thence will go round Cape Horn passing on to the Islands of Tahiti. From thence she will sail to the coast of California and proceed across the Pacific to China.
