Your teacher will direct you to which two types of eruptions you will be researching. Your research will be guided by questions that can be found in the step-by-step instructions that are located lower on this page. You can record the information you find on the table provided. You can copy and paste this table into a word processing program and fill it in as you progress. Once you have collected all of
your data, write a paper explaining why you would or would not suggest
going to a particular area to study volcanoes.
|
| Step
One
Copy and paste the table you will be recording your information on. Go To Table |
| Step
Two
Have a look at the questions below then go to the Resources page to start your research. Go to the section that has links to the websites about the types of eruptions you are examining. Research the types of eruptions by reading the questions below and linking to the websites provided. Fill out the table as you find information. You may do some more searching on your own if you wish. |
| Questions
1) How are the volcanoes formed for this particular type of eruption? You may pick a specific volcano if you wish. 2) What makes this type of eruption distinctive? 3) Pick an area that has volcanoes with the type of eruption you are researching. Are there active volcanoes in the area? 4) Describe a past eruption. How did it affect life around the volcano? 5) Do you think it is possible to climb/hike to the top of a volcano in this area? If so, what will we find? What will our experience be like? 6) Are there any interesting or unique features associated with the volcanoes? If so, describe them. |
| Step
Three
Once you have collected all of your data, write a paper explaining why you would or would not suggest going to a particular area to study volcanoes. Include the answers to the questions that were asked in step two. You can just focus on one type of eruption for your paper even though you researched two. |
| Step
Four
You will be grouped with some of your classmates who have researched other types of eruptions. You can discuss your findings and then make a final decision as to where to go! As a group, create a poster or brochure advertising an educational holiday to the volcano of your choice. You chose the format, and above all, have fun! |
