Introduction

The webquest was developed as part of an integrated unit about Taking Care of Yourself. 

The focus is on the merits of exercise and healthy eating.


Learners

The webquest is designed for outcomes in Science and Personal Planning at the grade 2/3 level.

Prior to beginning the webquest, students should have the basic knowledge of using the mouse to scroll and using links to navigate from page to page.


IRP Outcomes

Students will be able to:

Social Studies Outcomes:

  • Collect and record information from a variety of sources and experiences.
  • Identify an issue and provide several examples to support a position.
Science Outcomes:
  • Construct models to represent ideas or concepts.
Personal Planning Outcomes:
  • Explain why they need a variety of foods.
  • Describe activities that support their health.


In addition to the learning outcomes,other kinds of thinking and communication skills were encouraged by this webquest: 

  • Critical thinking
  • Creative production
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Categorization
  • Teamwork
  • Compromise



Process

The students' familiarity with computers and their reading level will determine the amount of time required to complete the webquest. Classroom time will be necessary for the development and presentation of the final projects. The entire time devoted to the theme of Taking Care of Yourself is five to six weeks.

When dividing students into groups, it is important to consider different reading levels. 
 


Evaluation

A rubric has been developed for the use of students and teachers. Students will use the rubric to self-assess the process and the final product.
 


Conclusion

The task to Help Not-Feeling-Well Wade hooks the students into a realistic problem solving scenario that has implications in their own lives.
