| Step 1 |
Before you can begin your research
you will need to print off four copies of the worksheet.
On this worksheet you will record the information that you learn about
the Burrowing Owl, Vancouver Island Marmot, Grizzly Bear, and the Woodland
Caribou. |
| Step 2 |
You will need to go to the resources
page. On this page is a selection of resources for each animal. You, as
a Canadian Biologist, will examine at least three of these resources and
record the information on your worksheet. You must remember to write down
the name of each source that you use at the bottom of your worksheet. (If
you need more space please use the back of the worksheet). |
Step 3 |
Print off a copy of the map
of Canada. Looking back at your notes find the information about the animals
home. On the map, colour each of the animals location (home) in a distinct
colour. Label each location clearly. Go to the evaluation
page to see how you will be marked. |
| Step 4 |
On a separate piece of paper for
each animal, write 12-15 sentences that describe each animals habitat.
You will want to include information about where each animal lives and
what each animal eats. See the evaluation
page for details on how you will be marked. |
| Step 5 |
Using two Venn
diagrams, compare the Burrowing Owl to the Woodland Caribou and the
Vancouver Island Marmot to the Grizzly Bear. Record the facts that makes
each of these animals endangered. You will need to record both the
similarities and differences between the animals. You will use these diagrams
to help you to decide which animal our Action Team should adopt. Be specific
about the similarities and differences, see the evaluation
page for details on how you will be marked. |
| Step 6 |
Based on all the information that
you have collected, write up a proposal (a paragraph of about 12-15 sentences)
stating at least 5 specific reasons why our Canadian Biologist Action Team
should adopt your chosen animal. You will want to consider all of the information
that you have collected in order to decide which animal to pick. Go to
the evaluation page to know what you
will be marked on. |
| Optional: |
|
| Step 7 |
If you finish early, you may choose
to create a poster "selling" your animal and the need for its adoption.
Go to the evaluation page to see what
your poster will be marked on. |
