Learning Outcomes

Applications of Social Studies

    The students will be able to:

• identify and clarify a problem issue or inquiry (child labour)

• defend/support a position on a global issue (child labour) by considering competing reasons from various perspectives.

• organize information into formal presentations using several forms of representation.

• design, implement, and assess detailed courses of action to address global problems or issues (child labour).

Language Arts

    The students will be able to:

• create a variety of written (demonstrated in PowerPoint) and oral communications (demonstrated in presentation) to record their concerns and views
• demonstrate confidence in their abilities to communicate effectively in a variety of classroom situations

• use pre-established criteria to evaluate group processes and their own contributions to the group
• demonstrate a willingness to assume a variety of roles in group interactions
• share responsibility for the effective functioning of groups
• encourage others to participate

• paraphrase and elaborate on the ideas of others to clarify and extend understanding
• use language to display empathy, acknowledge others' viewpoints (7)

Information Technology

Spreadsheets    

    The students will be able to:

• understand the uses of  spreadsheets
• enter text or numbers into a spreadsheet
• save and retrieve spreadsheet files (demonstrated by the insertion into powerpoint)
• create a graph using relevant data

Electronic Presentations

   The students will be able to:

• combine slides into a presentation

• reorganise slides using slide sorter

• add and remove relevant clip art

• add text into a slide

Notes to the Teacher

* This webquest is designed for students in grades six or seven (BC IRP). 

* Before this webquest is used the students will need some background knowledge of    Microsoft Works (spreadsheets) and PowerPoint.  Another option is to incorporate lessons on these programs while the webquest is in progress.

* The length of time required to complete this webquest will vary depending on the amount of lab time available.

* Suggested time allowances (approximate):

                        2 half hour classes to complete graph training (using Microsoft Works/Excel)

                        2-4 half hour classes to complete PowerPoint training

                        6-8 hour classes to complete webquest
