-
Using what you have learned, make an
informed decision as an individual about whether or not to implement a
prescribed burning within a certain forest. Decide how to best present
your argument to the class. (Some suggestions: power point
presentation, letter to the editor, poster, video, and magazine article.)
Prepare to individually present your finished product to the rest of the
class. Present your decision.
-
Review with the class various strategies
for resolving conflicts. Then have students identify strategies that
characters they have seen or read about have used to resolve their conflicts.
Ask students to describe how different strategies may result in different
resolutions to conflicts, and have them use these strategies to role-play
conflict resolution for the issue of prescribed burning.

listening to opposing viewpoints.
-
Allow students to self evaluate themselves
based on their debate performance.
-
Set criteria for evaluation and have
students do peer evaluations.

Advice
on process:
-
This Webquest focuses on relevant curriculum outcomes
for the grade 6 and 7 classroom. It is designed to help students
think critically about current issues, particularly the issue of prescribed
fires. Students will have the opportunity to research and gather
facts through the internet to investigate the effects, whether pro or con,
on prescribed burning. Through their findings students will interpret
the issue in the form of an oral debate.
-
Students will need to know:
-
How to navigate on the Internet (URLs, links, going
back and forth, and bookmarks).
-
How to use Inspiration to create a cluster map (for
brainstorming).
-
How to use a t-chart.

Some knowledge of oral debates and how to have an
effective one.
