the project. You will each be responsible
for helping one another in your learning. Go

Organize
and Research

You and your group will now do some
initial research on prescribed fires using the resources and links provided.
Organize your information using graphic organizers.

STEP 3: Begin
initial research. Click here for

STEP 4: Make
a cluster map highlighting some of the insights learned from your initial
research.

before you begin. Look at the criteria to see how you will be graded.

STEP 5:
Divide your group of four into two groups of two, a pro side and a con
side. You and your partner will work together as researchers and
recorders.

STEP 6: Download
the pro / con t-chart template or make your own. Click
here to use example.

STEP 7: Visit
all sites provided. List three important pieces
of information from each site on to the t-chart that will support your
arguments and provide you with information for counter arguments.

NOTE:The
pro side will search for information that supports the use of prescriptive
burning. The con side will search for information that opposes the
use of prescriptive burning. Both sides must also search for information
that will allow them to make counter arguments during the debate.

STEP 8: Based
on your research and the completed cluster map, complete the t-chart listing
the pros and cons of prescribed burning.

Debate

STEP 9: Find
another team of two who supports the same side as you and is ready to share
their brainstorms, notes, and graphic organizers.

STEP 10: As
a team, review your information and prepare arguments which support your
side. Also prepare counter arguments for the debate.

STEP 11: Find
a group who supports the opposite position of your team (In
other words, if your group is "pro", find a "con" group).
In a group of eight, four con and four
pro, debate the
issue of prescribed burning with your teacher acting as mediator.
