Before
students begin working on this webquest there are several mini-lessons
you might want to teach...
-
brainstorm
as a class some places in B.C. that students have been to or might want
to visit and their reasons for going. This will help students begin
to visualize their trips.
-
using
spreadsheets
-
calculating
sums and averages (for mileage, gas at $0.05 per km, and accomodation)
Students
also need to be familiar with:
-
email
postcards
-
a
mind mapping program such as Inspiration
-
reading
and using maps
You
will need to have:
-
road
maps of British Columbia from an atlas or tourist bureau
-
poster
board for each pairing
-
an
email address
-
copies
of the sample spreadsheet if you do not have Microsoft Works
-
a
large road map of BC for reference
-
and
a lot of patience....
Adaptations:
-
choose
partners wisely to ensure that weaker students are paired with stronger
students
Extensions:
-
students
can be asked to look deeper into the cities they are visiting and provide
more information in their emails
-
students
could provide the latitude and longitude of each of their stops
When
your students have finished their webquests they will deserve a reward.
We have created a certificate of completion
in Microsoft Works that you can give to each pairing after their presentation.
Good
Luck!
