TASK #1

Working in groups you will collaborate to research global warming from one of the perspectives below.  You will then prepare a PowerPoint presentation.  Each group member will present to a jigsaw group.

         

STEP 1      Click here to find out about jigsaw groups.
STEP 2 Click here for background information.  A brief overview of the issues related to global warming will help you understand the additional reading.
STEP3 Click here to find out how your work will be graded.  It's important that you note how assignment marks are distributed so that you concentrate your efforts appropriately.
STEP 4 Click here to go to the note taking page.  You will be visiting internet sites to research a particular aspect of global warming.  The sites have been selected so that you will be exposed to variety of viewpoints.  You can check Statistics Canada's tips for thinking critically when exploring websites.   It's important to note your sources because you will be required to properly cite them in your presentation.  Click here to read about citing resources properly.   You can divide this task amongst group members, but each student must review and collect notes from at least two sites.  Notes will be submitted for grades.

STEP 6 Discuss your findings within your group.  Plan your presentation.  If you have Inspiration Software click here to use the flow diagram to plan your presentation.  Click here to print a template.  It will help you organize your presentation.  After your plan has been approved move to step 7.
STEP 7 Use PowerPoint to build your presentation.  If PowerPoint is unavailable use your flow diagram to design an alternate presentation.  Work with what is available. i.e. overhead projector, chart paper.

TASK #2

You are now an expert on global warming.  You have listened to a variety of perspectives and opinions.  Your next task involves writing a newspaper editorial.  Your editorial will express your personal opinion about whether or not Canadians are doing enough to combat global warming.
