Discussion groups will meet six times during the term as according to schedule below. One third of the mark for participation will be awarded for attendance. The rest of the mark is awarded for the frequency of your participation in discussions, and the quality of your participation. To participate well means demonstrating that you have read the assigned readings carefully; that you have developed a careful answer to the assigned question or questions for the discussion group meetings; and that you can state your answer, with supporting evidence and reasoning, in your discussion group. Questions for discussion are given in the lecture outline below. Note, students who miss more than three seminars will lose their entire participation mark. Moreover, since learning from group discussions is the key to this assignment, students cannot “make up” missed participation by handing in a written report.
