Portal is Vancouver Island University’s literary magazine. It features the best works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, literary essays, art and photography, among other mediums, by students attending VIU. The magazine is produced entirely by students in the upper-level publishing class, under the supervision of their instructor, Rhonda Bailey.
First published in 1991, Portal has been a self–sufficient publication through the generous support of advertisers and donors, and the hard work put into fundraising by students.
This year, Portal features an interview with British Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, who was the 2009 Ralph and Betty Gustafson Chair of Poetry. She delivered two inspiring poetry readings at the University in October, 2009.
Portal 2010 will be available on April 7, 2010 at the University bookstore and other fine book retailers around central Vancouver Island. The magazine will also be available at the reception desk in building 340 at VIU's Nanaimo Campus , or by emailing portalmagazine@viu.ca
