The project is complete and the mapping and
reports are now available in PDF format below. The report files are
quite large (~4MB) so they may take some time to download. You will
need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files, which can be downloaded
for free from
http://get.adobe.com/reader/ if you do not already have it
installed on your computer.
The technical summary report for the pilot
study completed in 2009 is available from the link below. This
document gives the technical details on how the mapping was
completed for the CVRD & RDN, and should be read to understand the method.
Pilot Study
Report
The technical summary report for phase 2 of
the project, mapping the rest of Vancouver
Island, can be downloaded from the link below. Note that some of the
methods changed in phase 2 so the the results for the CVRD & RDN are
similar but are not the same. The vulnerability map below is based
on work in phase 2, and the report should be read to understand the
method and the differences in results with the pilot study.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The mapping provides the best estimate of
intrinsic aquifer vulnerability given the resources available to
complete the analysis. It provides a basis for making land-use
decisions that account for regional aquifer vulnerability. However,
in many instances more detailed hydrogeological studies will be
required to better characterize and confirm the results of this
study. This is particularly relevant for areas where high
vulnerability ratings have been assigned that could limit potential
land-use.
