Social Events We invite you to participate in the social events arranged for delegates during this conference. Enjoy socializing with old and new friends and taking in some of the unique special events and entertainment. Extra tickets can be purchased at the registration desk and are available up until Wednesday noon. Tuesday, May 17 Event: Opening Keynote & Wine & Cheese Social Following Ken Balmer’s Opening Keynote, start "building your bridges" at the Wine & Cheese Social. Wednesday, May 18 Event: Hosted Dinners **See Registration for sign-up and details Join a small group of your colleagues and experience some of Nanaimo’s fabulous cuisine. We’ll host but you pay! -AND- Event: CCLR Idol (Pub & Talent Night) After dinner, come out and have some fun and "strut your stuff"! Sing alone or get together with a few of your friends and compete for the title of "CCLR Idol". Prizes will be awarded!
Thursday, May 19 Event: Salmon Barbecue Experience a First Nation traditional cedar stick salmon barbecue on beautiful Newcastle Island, (Nanaimo’s own Stanley Park) Enjoy the Haa Huu Payak School Group from Port Alberni perform "The Animal Kingdom", a celebration of the many wonders of nature. Go early & enjoy a hike around the island! Casual attire, bring a warm sweater. Bus Transportation provided from Malaspina at 3:00, 3:30, and 4:00 to Newcastle Ferry Bus Transportation from Newcastle Ferry to downtown and Malaspina at 10:00, 10:30 and 11:00 Friday, May 20 Event: Island Reflections Banquet Let’s "celebrate" the conference Island Style! Music, fine food & entertainment will provide the perfect atmosphere to "reflect" on the conference theme "The Two Solitudes: Isolation or Impact?" Michael Bortolotto, "A Positive Rebel in Action" (and a former graduate of the recreation diploma program), will provide his unique "reflections" on our conference. Attire is casual, casual business.
