Island West Coast Developments (IWCD)

The IWCD green roof was designed by Victoria Drakeford, a local landscape architect in Nanaimo, and the building is aiming at obtaining LEED gold certification. At the time of construction, the green portion of the roof was subdivided into five plots. One plot is used as a control and does not have any soil or plants growing on it (only has the conventional roof structure). The other four plots have been planted using a combination of different plant species (click here to see a layout of the roof). On the layout, plot B has soil depth of 6 inches, while plots A, C and D have soil depths of 3 inches.
